Substitutions

We strive to accommodate the needs of all families. Below please find recommended substitutes for our Rad-Families with dietary restrictions, compliments of VeegMama, a lifestyle blog sharing new approaches to healthy living through food, wellness, and personal fulfillment.

Gluten-Free

Churros con Chocolate >> Use gluten-free flour.

Tapas Trio >> For Pan con Tomate, use gluten-free bread.

 Egg Allergy

Churros con Chocolate >> In place of an egg, mix 2 Tbsp of Follow Your Heart’s VeganEgg and ½ cup of water. Alternatively, you could use 1 flax egg (1 Tbsp of flaxseed meal + 2.5 Tbsp of water.)

Tapas Trio >> For Potatas Bravas, use an eggless mayonnaise, such as Follow Your Heart’s Vegenaise or Hampton Creek’s Just Mayo.

  Dairy Allergy

Churros con Chocolate >> Use dairy-free butter. In place of heavy cream, use coconut cream. Alternatively, you could use the cream at that top of a can of coconut milk (full fat, not light coconut milk). A thicker cream forms at the top of the can and can be scooped out away from the liquid. Be sure to use dairy-free or semi-sweet chocolate chips.

 Vegetarian

Tapas Trio >> For Bacon Wrapped Dates, use a meatless bacon, such as Lightlife’s Fakin’ Bacon or Sweet Earth’s Benevolent Bacon.

Paella >> Use a meatless sausage, such as Tofurky’s Andouille or Kielbasa. Use a meatless shrimp product such as Vegetarian Plus’ Vegan Shrimp or May Wah’s Shrimp Balls. Alternatively, use 1 cup of sliced shiitake mushrooms in place of shrimp. Use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
