Raddish was founded on the belief that cooking is about far more than food—it’s a powerful way kids learn about the world and themselves. In 2006, former middle school teacher Samantha Barnes left the classroom to begin teaching cooking to children. Through hands-on lessons, she quickly discovered that the kitchen naturally blends learning and creativity: kids explored culture, practiced math, observed science in action, and connected with history—all while cooking.
While teaching, Samantha noticed a disconnect. Her students loved watching cooking shows and talking about recipes, yet many had never actually cooked. To bridge that gap, she launched a mobile cooking school, bringing practical culinary education to kids through after-school programs, camps, and classes. Later, as a parent, the value of cooking together became even clearer. The kitchen wasn’t just a place to prepare meals—it was a place to
connect, laugh, learn, and build memories as a family. In 2014, Samantha created Raddish Kids - a culinary education company that offers monthly cooking and baking subscription boxes for kids.
Raddish was founded on the belief that cooking is the foundation of a healthy, engaged, and connected childhood and life. Learning to cook should be fun, hands-on, and just as essential to growing up as any other activity. The kitchen is where kids take risks, learn from mistakes, follow directions, and build creativity, curiosity, resilience, and independence.
Through edible education, cooking becomes a way for kids to explore diverse cultures, mix math, simmer science, and taste history. Our goal is to prepare kids for every stage of a delicious life—from helping make dinner and baking for neighbors to feeding their own families one day.
Across the Raddish Kids team, there is a combined 40+ years of culinary expertise. Different from many other cooking subscription companies for kids, Raddish takes the culinary arts very seriously and believes that it is a craft science and art and should be treated as such whether you are making recipes for Michelin restaurants or for kids and families to make in their homes. We leave the gimmicks and novelty tricks to others and focus on insanely delicious recipes that are carefully crafted to be approachable for kids, healthy, and exciting for the whole family. Nearly half the team went to culinary school and ended up at Raddish Kids for the combined purpose and mission of a love of food, cooking, and baking and a shared love of spreading knowledge and teaching those skills and experiences with kids. For example, Maegan Zelner, Raddish’s COO, joined the Company in 2014, inspired by the mission and most importantly the quality approach to the materials and recipes. Each day at Raddish, she can leverage her culinary training from Le Cordon Bleu as well as her business acumen to help scale and reach as many kids and families as possible.
