Gluten Free Substitution
Unfortunately, after several rounds of testing, we were not able to adequately make this recipe gluten free with a simple substitution of flours (i.e. the results did not meet our standard to recommend it as a GF option), but feel free to let us know if you have better luck in your kitchen....along with how you did it!
Dairy Free & Vegan Substitution
Use dairy free butter, such as Earth Balance
Make dairy free buttermilk by combining two cups dairy free milk, such as almond, cashew or coconut milk and 2 TB lemon juice or vinegar. Let sit 5-10 minutes.
