Dietary Modifications for Food Is Love

We strive to accommodate the needs of all families. Below please find recommended substitutes for our Rad Families with dietary restrictions. 

 

Gluten-Free

Hearty Greens Caesar Salad >> Use your favorite gluten-free bread 

Layers of Love Lasagna >> 

  • For lasagna noodles – choose one:
    • Use oven-ready, gluten-free lasagna noodles, such as DeBoles, Simply Balanced (Target brand), or Barilla.
    • Replace gluten-free lasagna noodles with zucchini noodles.
      1. Thinly slice zucchini length-wise, about 1/8 thick.
      2. Layer zucchini as you would lasagna noodles. 

Mini Chocolate Cheesecakes >> Use gluten-free graham crackers, such as Pamela’s or Kinnikinnick.

 

Dairy Allergy

Hearty Greens Caesar Salad >> Use dairy-free Parmesan cheese, such as Follow Your Heart or Go Veggie!

Layers of Love Lasagna >> 

  • For ricotta – choose one:
    • Use dairy-free ricotta, such as Tofutti or Kite Hill.
    • Make your own Tofu Ricotta:
  1.  Process the following ingredients in a food processor:
    • 2 packages (14 - 16 oz) firm tofu (drained)
    • 2 tsp garlic powder
    • 2 tsp dried oregano
    • 2 tsp dried basil
    • 1/3 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
    • ¼ cup olive oil
    • 4 tsp nutritional yeast (optional)
    • ½ tsp salt
  • Use dairy-free Parmesan, such as Follow Your Heart or Go Veggie!
  • Use dairy-free mozzarella, such as Follow Your Heart, Go Veggie! or Daiya.

Mini Chocolate Cheesecakes >>

  • Use dairy-free butter, such as Earth Balance.
  • Use dairy-free cream cheese, such as Daiya, Follow Your Heart, Go Veggie!
  • Use dairy-free semisweet chocolate chips, such as Enjoy Life semisweet chocolate chips, or substitute dark chocolate.
  • Use dairy-free milk, such as coconut, almond, soy or pea protein.
  • Use dairy-free sour cream, such as Tofutti.
  • For optional whipped cream topping – choose one:
    • Use a dairy-free whipped cream, such as So Delicious CocoWhip or Soy Whip. 
    • Make your own coconut whipped cream:
    1. Refrigerate a can of coconut milk 8 hours or overnight.
    2. Remove the milk from the fridge without shaking the can and remove the lid.
    3. Scrape out the top layer of thickened cream (reserve the liquid for another use).
    4. Beat the coconut cream with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
    5. Stir in ¼ - ¾ cup powdered sugar and ½ teaspoon of vanilla (if desired).

     

    Egg Allergy

    Hearty Greens Caesar Salad >> Use eggless mayonnaise, such as Follow Your Heart Vegenaise, Primal Kitchen or Sir Kensington’s Fabanaise.

    Layers of Love Lasagna >> Use 2 flax eggs:

    • Combine 2 Tbsp finely ground flaxseed meal with 5 Tbsp water.
    • Let rest 5 minutes to thicken.

    Mini Chocolate Cheesecakes >> Use 1 flax egg:

    • Combine 1 Tbsp finely ground flaxseed meal with 7 ½ tsp water.
    • Let rest 5 minutes to thicken.

      

    Vegan

    Hearty Greens Caesar Salad >> 

    • Use dairy-free Parmesan, such as Follow Your Heart or Go Veggie!
    • Use eggless mayonnaise, such as Follow Your Heart Vegenaise, Primal Kitchen, or Sir Kensington’s Fabanaise.
    • Use vegan Worcestershire, such as Annie's.

    • For ricotta – choose one:
