Science Activities with Kids from Michelle at Trekaroo

It's nearly time to go back to school and as a mom my thoughts turn once again to doing things with my kids that have educational value. We love traveling and discovering new places - especially when we can have fun and learn with our kids. Experiencing science in the kitchen or at a fun destination can make learning come alive for kids. And here are 8 places for kids to experience science in action across the nation!

"Trekaroo exists to enable families to inspire and equip each other to explore the world." Read reviews and share your own stories with us today!

Exploratorium - San Francisco

Kids can spend hours at this hands-on science center, known for its vast array of amazing interactive experiences. Exhibits such as the tactile dome, teach kids about science through demonstrating the science itself. It truly is my favorite!

California Science Center – Los Angeles

Families love this large museum, not just because it’s free (which is fantastic) but because of the cutting-edge exhibits that kids love interacting with. Don’t miss seeing the gigantic Space Shuttle Endeavour housed here!

Pacific Science Center – Seattle

Get ready to explore the many rooms of exhibits that all ages of kids will love. Add on a visit to the planetarium, IMAX theatre, or Tropical Butterfly House. Toddlers will love splashing at the Waterworks!

Children's Museum of Indianapolis

This is the largest children’s museum in the world and houses well over 20,000 artifacts. Kids will find this place truly a wonder with the immersive hands-on areas.

Museum of Science - Boston

The massive size of this museum, housed in an historic building, will keep kids exploring and learning all day. This museum is a “do-not-miss” when families visit Boston.

Science City - Kansas City, MO

Kids and parents love this science center for the freedom and imagination that is found in the hands-on exhibits. It is located in historic Union Station which sets the tone for a magical experience.

Natural History Museum of Utah

This is a relatively new museum yet it has already earned a great reputation for its stunning displays of dinosaurs, a 3-story canyon, and amazing science exhibits. Younger kids will enjoy a special area where they can look at local insects, play in a pond area, and crawl through underground tunnels.

Franklin Institute - Philadelphia

Kids love walking through a giant heart, shocking each other with Ben Franklin’s key, and playing in the sports section with physics in mind. These and so much more make this hands-on science center a must-do in Philadelphia.

No matter where you live, enjoy exploring science with your kids, whether in the kitchen, the science museum, or in your own backyard.

Our guest blogger, Michelle McCoy (aka mcfam at mmccoy@trekaroo.com), is Trekaroo’s Southern California Destination Guru. She and her husband love traveling to National Parks and going camping, but when life with 4 young kids keeps them home, they find their fun in traveling to the local beaches in Orange County and hiking in the wilderness areas nearby.
